Star-Powered Jazz: The Summer’s Ultimate Soundtrack
This year’s stellar lineup includes legendary vocalist Robert Johnson, of Stevie Wonder fame, and Jeff Franca, celebrated drummer and musical director with Thievery Corporation, alongside top Colorado-based talent. Franca is debuting “The Shape of Jazz” at the festival, as a “…dive back to my roots of sonic expiration, composition and improvisation. The name pays homage to Ornette Coleman’s ground breaking album “The Shape of Jazz to Come” where the term “Free Jazz” was coined. In a world where automated systems are becoming more widespread, the idea of channeling something original, something human and unique to a moment is the sonic response to the dehumanizing of society. The band will be playing original compositions and arrangements, as well as some classic versions that have never been heard like this before. The spirit of freedom and creativity will be our muse as we embark to let our inhibitions down and open our ears and hearts to the rhythm of the universe.” The Mark Diamond Trio will bring soul-filled energy with Robert Johnson, and the Chantil Dukart Duo will deliver earthy, funky grooves.
